The Glacier Grand Slam Tour offers you a full day of scenic activities in the Skaftafell region, combining a half a day hike where you will get up close to an icefall and experience panoramic views the glacier and surrounding mountains. a fun Zodiac Boat Trip in Fjallsárlón lagoon with an overview of Vatnajökull Glacier.
The tour starts from Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon for the Zodiac boat ride before the hiking part of the tour starts where you will walk along a winding paths carved out by the glacier.
Fjallsárlón is a lesser-known glacial lagoon located near Vatnajökull. This is for travellers who want to avoid the crowds and experience spectacular sights in an iceberg wonderland. Iceland’s tallest volcano, the Öræfajökull glacier, looms above the lagoon. Scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed at Fjallsarlon Glacier Lagoon. This is your chance to witness Iceland’s breathtaking natural scenery as we take you on a guided boat tour along floating icebergs and giant glaciers!
Next up is the glacier hike. When arriving at the tongue of the glacier you will get a quick safety instructions and you’lkl need to gear up with crampons before heading up towards the icefall. Your guide will lead the way as you will be walking through some amazing blue colored formations of ice. You will have plenty of time to take in the vast panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
This tour meets on location and guests must provide their own transportation from Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon to Skaftafell for the glacier hike.
Fjallsárlón location: Fjallsárlón Iceland, 785 Öræfi (GPS Coordinates: 64°0’57.74184”N 16°21’55.67976”W)
Skaftafell glacier: Road 1 goes from Reykjavík to Skaftafell (326 km). Road 998 (2 km) leads up to the visitor centre in Skaftafell.
Waterproof jacket and pants
Hiking boots (We advise against runners or any type of shoe that comes up below the ankle bone as the straps on the crampons can get a bit painful during the walk)
Light sweater, wool or fleece
Light synthetic or quick dry pants (Jeans are not suitable clothing

Small Backpack (Can be handy to carry camera, rain gear and all extras)
Sunglasses and sun protection (It can get quite bright on the ice with the reflection)
Food and drinks (Lunch is not provided on any of our trips. June – September there is plenty of fresh water on the glacier so bring a bottle)
