Experience one of Iceland’s best kept secrets – Rauðasandur (Red Sands) takes its name from the vibrant colour of the sand on the coast. Rauðasandur is situated near Látrabjarg cliffs, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, auburn colored sand and stunning black cliffs, it’s a once in a lifetime experience.
Our expert local guide will either shuttle you by tractor carriage or on foot (without disturbing the seals) to a secret seal colony where harbour seals can often be seen at a very close range.
We do our best not to disturb the seals and show them respect, and because seals are naturally curious and playful you’ll definitely get some good snapshots. Over 100 seals frequently lounge in the sun and sand at Rauðasandur, sunbathing and resting on the beach. In early summer, seal-mothers lie on the sand with their pups. Later in the summer, you can watch as the pups take their first steps to adulthood.
This is an adventure every animal lover should experience.
