The Glacier Wonder Tour is your introduction to the unique landscapes a glacier has to offer. The tour is great for those looking for a short but stunning guided hike and is suitable for anyone over the age of 10 years old who is relatively fit and healthy.
The Glacier Wonder Tour departs from Skaftafell via bus for a scenic 15 minute drive to Falljökull glacier. On our way you will see impressive mountains that line the southern edge of the Vatnajökull glacier.
The hike starts along the bottom of the glacier carved valley where your guide will educated you on the unique features left by the retreating Falljökull and Virkisjökull glaciers and their surroundings.
As we arrive at the edge of the Falljökull glacier your guide will give you a safety demonstration and assist you with putting the crampons on. You will than explore the lower part of the glacier with many great photo opportunities along the way as you will be surrounded by some breathtaking views.
Please remember to wear water- and windproof clothing (including sturdy shoes) that will keep you warm and dry. Good hiking boots are essential, it is not possible to fit ice crampons to any other footwear.
We also recommend bringing thermal layers, a winter hat, scarf, gloves, and warm socks as well.
Bring some water to stay hydrated.
Don’t worry, you can always rent sturdy hiking boots, and waterproof jacket/pants in the booking process. You can also rent gear at the Glacier Guides booking house in Skaftafell.
