Ice & Lava Cave Adventure

All year Daily About 11 hours Your hotel / guesthouse in Reykjavik Very easy Min 4 years old

The Ice and Lava Cave tour is family friendly and the ideal way to explore Iceland below the surface. During the tour, participants can explore the man made Langjokull Ice Cave and Vidgelmir Lava Cave. The tour departs early from Reykjavik for a crisp morning view of Langjokull Glacier. From the base camp, a large modified truck will drive you up the glacier. When you reach the destination, the group will begin the journey into the Ice Cave, where you can explore the  underworld of Iceland.

Until recently, what lay beneath the surface in Langjokull was a mystery. The Ice Tunnel and Ice Cave are man made, and allow visitors to see the glacier from the inside. During the tour, the guide will take you on a magical journey deep within the glacier, where you can see stunning blue ice and wonderful glacier formations. The glacier is in constant motion and this movement can be witnessed first hand.

After the Ice Cave tour, the group will eat lunch at Hotel Husafell, before continuing to see Vidgelmir Lava Cave. This is one of the mightiest lava caves in Iceland, and at about 1600 meters long it is also one of the largest lava caves in the world. Your guide will show and explain the amazing features of the cave, such as the wonderful colors, lava stalactites and stalagmites. On the way back you will take the scenic route back to Reykjavik and visit some of the natural pearls on the way, such as Barnafossar and Hraunfossar Waterfalls.
