Explore Iceland’s deepest canyon and highest waterfall when hiking to Glymur Waterfall, one of Iceland’s best-kept secrets. For those that choose the pick-up service, the tour departs from Reykjavik before driving towards Hvalfordur, a 30km long fjord surrounded by volcanic mountains. Hvarlfjordur is one of the deepest fjords in Iceland and is known for its beautiful surroundings and important role in WW2 when it was a naval base for the British and American navies. Once you reach Hvalfjordur, you will drive to a cove at the bottom of the fjord and into an isolated valley where the hike starts.
Crossing rivers and going through caves makes this tour perfect for adventurous travellers. Early on the hike, the guides will lead you on a path along the rim of the canyon, towards a ledge where you can see all of Glymur Waterfall in its glory. This is an excellent place to take photos and have a bite to eat. After some rest, the group continues further upwards, until reaching the level heath above Glymur Waterfall. This is where you will take off your hiking boots and wade across the river under the supervision of a trusty guide. Although the water may be cold, it is only 20-25 cm deep. Once you reach the other side of the river, the guides will lead you back down, where you can see the beautiful Glymur from a new perspective.
Pick up is optional. If you choose to meet at the departure point, please arrive at the parking lot at the end of the road in Botnsdalur Valley at 9:45 am.
