An exciting day tour that takes you to the area of the recent eruption that made headlines all over the world. Our destination is the Fimmvorduhals pass and the craters Magni and Modi (1100m) that erupted during the first phase of the eruption.

Just east of the world famous Eyjafjallajokull Volcano we turn onto a mountain track leading up the Fimmvorduháls pass. Leaving our vehicles behind at 800m altitude we gear up for a 3 hour long hike to the craters where the fresh lava is still steaming and glowing under the surface.

Did you know?

Eyjafjallajokull volcano is a great tongue twister and we locals always have a good laugh when foreigners try to pronounce it correctly. After sleeping for 180 years the volcano suddenly decided that enough was enough and siesta time was over. This happen in the year 2010 and the eruption disrupted air traffic across the Atlantic for a few weeks. I guess volcanoes can also be grumpy in the mornings!
