This will be an exciting tour into the highlands off the south coast of Iceland.
The tour is an excellent opportunity for those who want to experience Icelandic nature first hand. An unforgettable experience of Icelandic horse riding, on easy to challenging roads and beautiful scenery. On this trip you´ll discover the hidden nature of Þjórsárdalur which is not always accessible to travelers. The view up in the highlands is breathtaking!
Three days in the saddle, sleeping in mountain houses, traditional Icelandic food and an unforgettable experience. On the tour we provide full meals and delicious Icelandic snacks. On request we can provide special preferential meals. We are going to use trails which are dedicated for real Icelandic horsemen and farmers in Autumn for sheep roundups and staying in cottages where they usually sleep.
08:30 – Pickup starts at hotels and guesthouses in Reykjavik
10:15 – Arrival at Breiðanes farm where horses are selected to match rider’s experience. We will also enjoy lunch at the farm before starting the horse riding part of the tour.
11:30 – The tour starts by riding alongside the river Þjórsá up into the highlands which includes some beautiful scenery. The horse ride is about 6-7 hours (35 km) with a few short breaks for riders and horses.
19:00 – Arrival at Klettur cottage (sleeping bag accommodation without electricity and showers) where traditional Icelandic dinner (lamb leg “in the hole”) will be served. After dinner guests will have some free time to relax and recharge the batteries for the next day.

11:00 – Riding starts and will last for about 6 hours (30-35 km) with a few short breaks. The riding will take place on good riding paths surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and beautiful nature. The path will bring us past some historical ruins from the viking era (Gjáin and Stöng).
15:00 – Arrive to Hólaskógur where a late lunch will be served and horses rested for the rest of the day while riders do some sightseeing.
16:30 – Riders will be driven up to 2nd highest waterfall in Iceland – Háifoss (122m)
18:00 – Arrival back at Hólaskógur were riders will rest for the night with access to showers and electricity.
19:00 – Barbeque dinner (Icelandic lamb and beef) with free time after dinner.

10:00 – Riding starts and will last for around 7 hours (35-40 km) on good riding paths that ar used by Icelandic farmers when they gather their sheep in autumn. We will pass through wonderful landscape with sands, mountains, rivers, waterfall (Hjálparfoss) and trees.
17:00 – Arrival to Breiðanes where we will enjoy some snacks and coffee before saying our farewells to our fellow riders.
18:00 – Departure to hotel and guesthouses in Reykjavik with expected arrival there being around 19:30 – 20:00 o’clock.

During the trip, you will be provided full meals and drinks. A healthy breakfast, light lunch, snack on the break during a trip, and traditional Icelandic dinners after the ride. It is possible also to order a vegetable dinner if necessary or let us know about any other food preferences. There is no breakfast on the first day and no dinner on the last day.
Riders are required to bring: Warm clothes (good windproof jacket, sweater -woolen or fleece, gloves and warm socks, at least two pairs, hat or cap, good footwear – riding shoes, riding trousers), towel, sleeping bag for the 3 days tour (it is possible to borrow sleeping bags).
